An almost rabid environmentalist, Russell spends long hours in Whangaparaoa's Shakespear Park, observing, listening, communing with the stunning environment around him but mostly for the birds. Through these long hours he has established relationships with the birds he portrays in their natural habitat. The bird’s trust in Russell has allowed him to record their daily lives digitally and to bring their often unseen plumage to the public. Russell’s verses will mean different things to each of us, but they often take us on an emotional journey.
