Jan Lorraine The ideal of beauty regularly occupies today’s media headlines, creating a preoccupation with body image and, in particular, the emotional response triggered by our own internalised viewing and interpretations of our self-image. Jan Lorraine’s figurative pieces show exaggerated features taking a lighthearted look at the seriousness of body image and the reality of perfection.
“I love being a woman, my fascination with the human form and choosing to approach my work with a sense of fun has resulted in my figurative works now dubbed as ‘The Girls’. The process of taking a piece of clay and transforming it into a finished sculpture is incredibly satisfying for me. The immense pleasure and smiles often evoked by my works, completes the journey for me…until I reach the next fork in the road” says Jan.
