Karen Kennedy Karen is largely self taught, and has been sculpting for 20+ years. She has several styles she concentrates on, in particular, small delicate figurines in white clay, high fired and painted, glazed and sometimes gilded or lustred. These may be cute dressed animals, fancy clowns, realistic animals, people, fairies, pixies, dragons. She lives with her husband, a motley flock of hens and small terrier (inspiration for her fierce dogs) up in the bush end of the Henderson Valley where they are visited by tuis, wood pigeons and numerous mallard ducks. Karen has been a member of Auckland Studio Potters, Titirangi Community Arts Council and Waitakere Central Community Arts Council where she is a Past President and has been an active Committee member for many years. Karen is also a wood carver, something she does mostly for pleasure. You can appreciate the sense of humour that comes through her gorgeous figurines, and identify with many of them.
